Projects

Boston Harbor
TG&B collected over 300 vibrocore samples in the approaches to and throughout Boston and Weymouth Harbors for the Boston Harbor Dredging Project funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Using the 99-foot vessel NOBKSA, cores were taken to a penetration depth of 3 meters in water depths of 13 meters.

New Bedford (MA) Harbor Superfund Site
TG&B collected 6.5 meter vibrocores throughout the outer harbor of New Bedford, MA and collected 66 other cores on a precision grid in a pre and post-dredging program to determine the effectiveness of new dredging technologies at this superfund site. TG&B has also provided coring services and vessel support for four other engineering companies on projects throughout New Bedford Harbor.

Lake Champlain
TG&B performed a site investigation at a former MGP plant in Lake Champlain in Plattsburg NY.  The project consisted of conducting a bathymetric survey and collecting 70 vibrocores.  Water and grab samples were also collected throughout the area.

Offshore Borneo
TG&B built, deployed and recovered 1000 meter moorings using RDI and Aanderaa current meters in the Makassar Strait off Borneo in support of an oceanographic program to determine currents for UNOCAL rigs working in the area.  TG&B also rigged the vessels that were used on the program.

New England Harbors (26)
From 2002-2005 TG&B was contracted to collect vibracore samples from 26 harbors from Manius, CT to Buck’s Harbor, ME.  The purpose of the work was to identify sediment grain size and chemical content in advance of federal government dredging
programs. Reference samples were also collected from offshore reference sites.

Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant and Logan International Airport
TG&B was selected to supply, install, and maintain 12 Coast Guard-type Gilman buoys to mark the Exclusionary Zone along the offshore perimeter of the nuclear plant. The buoys are deployed in water depths of 10 to 40 feet on Plymouth’s exposed coast on Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts. TG&B also installed an 800 foot security boom across the plant’s intake. At Logan, TG&B installed 29 buoys demarcating the security zone.

South Coast of Massachusetts
In a project to determine a route to lay a buried cable to instrumentation in the Atlantic Ocean offshore Martha’s Vineyard, TG&B was contracted to collect 36 vibrocores.  Water depths ranged from 7 to 24 meters.  A variety of sands, clay, peat and gravel were encountered in the three meter long cores.  As part of the overall contract, TG&B performed penetrometer and shear strength tests on the samples and advised on the optimum route for the cable.

Massachusetts Military Reservation, Superfund Site
TG&B provided full marine support and logistics as part of the 1998-2000 drilling program at the MMR superfund site.  This included support of multiple drilling operations on John’s Pond in 1998 Ashumet Pond in 1999-2000.  TG&B collected 3 meter continuous vibracore samples in addition to providing two drilling barges, captain and diving services, positioning services, and rig moving and related services to three other organizations. In over 12 months of drilling operations, no delays were encountered as a result of the marine support.

Neponset Reservoir, Foxboro, MA
As in many projects of this type, TG&B provided boat support, sampling equipment and sample collection expertise for the ongoing site investigation at the Neponset Reservoir. The sampling included sediment core collection, surface sediment sampling, water and biological sampling, and peizometer installation.

New Bedford Harbor
TG&B established a precision navigation network, performed extensive bottom grab sampling and gravity coring surveys, and participated in a dye dispersion study in the New Bedford Harbor. In addition, TG&B conducted current profiling and deployed current meter moorings.

Boston Harbor
TG&B provided vessel support on the geophysical and marine archeological survey at the proposed sewer diffuser site offshore Boston Harbor. Side scan sonar, magnetometer and precision bathymetric data were collected as over 500 line miles were covered during the survey.

Hudson River and Boston Harbor
From 2003-2005, TG&B performed site investigations in four sites in the Hudson River and in Boston Harbor’s Fort Point Channel. Each project included grab samples and precision positioning of 20-25 stations.

New England Harbors
TG&B performed numerous side scan sonar surveys and underwater video surveys to locate and map bottom obstructions at several ports and harbors throughout New England. TG&B has also managed several dive operations.

Massachusetts DEM
As part of an Office of Waterways blanket contract for testing services, TG&B was selected as the only qualified sampling contractor. TG&B has performed various sediment sampling programs in rivers and harbors throughout the state as part of this ongoing program.

Narragansett Bay, R.I.
TG&B performed several offshore sand inventory programs for Woods Hole Group. The work included taking 4 meter vibrocores and providing positioning services. TG&B also provides boats and personnel for the real time oceanographic PORTS program in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island on an ongoing basis.

St. Lawrence Seaway
TG&B mobilized two vessels and coring systems on 3 day notice and conducted an extensive vibrocore sampling program at the Snake River and St. Lawrence Seaway for PCB analysis. Over 250 cores were obtained during the three week sampling period. TG&B vessel operators are OSHA HAZWOPER-trained for sampling at superfund sites.

Boston Harbor
As part of the MWRA Harbor studies program, TG&B provided vessel support on extensive plume tracking surveys at the Nut Island and Long Island Sewage Outfalls and harbor background studies. These surveys were performed utilizing Battelle’s integrated towed survey system, the Mini-Boss. TG&B also provided vessel support on benthic sampling operations using grab samplers and a sediment profile camera, and supported diver operations and underwater video surveys for Benthic Flux studies.

Lake Erie
TG&B performed box coring operation in Narragansett Bay and Lake Erie for ADL in support of the National TBT Monitoring Program. The TG&B survey vessel was trailered to several sites in the two areas and successful box cores were collected using the R/V Surveysa’s custom hydraulic A-frame, which permitted sampling with only a two man crew.

Block Island Sound
TG&B collected vibrocores up the 5 meters long between Block Island and Long Island during 2000.  The purpose of the study was to determine sand deposits, cultural resources and to groundtruth subbottom data. TG&B chartered and outfitted the 68 foot “Beavertail” for this work.

Lake Ontario
TG&B mobilized a vessel on Lake Ontario and collected vibrocores to a depth of 3 meters to determine sand deposits for beach protection and replenishment studies.
